Spring Break in Daytona Beach, Florida

Spring Break in Daytona Beach, Florida

Even though gas prices are $3.50 a gallon, it hasn't stopped college kids from as far away as Iowa from making spring break pilgrimages to Daytona Beach, Florida. Many are squeezing more people into a single vehicle to save money, as well as making food to bring with them on the road rather then eating at restaurants.

A tough winter in much of the country is still prompting students to escape to Florida's sunny climate, despite the rising cost of fuel and recent airfare increases. The cost of hotel rooms remains the same as last year, which makes it a good deal once students get to the city. March is the third-biggest tourism month in Daytona Beach after June and July, and the city even holds promotional events at some college campuses to promote spring break travel. Overall, Florida is the king of spring break, with Orlando topping Las Vegas as the No. 1 destination this year.
